The Z 27500, more commonly known as ZGC (Z Large Capacity), is an electric multiple unit train from the AGC family (Autorail Grande Capacité), designed by Bombardier Transport on behalf of the SNCF. Delivered in the 2000s as part of the modernization of regional networks, it is intended to provide TER links on electrified lines.
Unlike other versions of the AGC family (which can be thermal or dual-mode), the Z 27500 operates exclusively on electrical power. Depending on the configurations ordered by the different regions, it exists in a single-current version (1500 V direct current) or dual-current (capable of running under 1500 V direct current and 25,000 V alternating), which allows it to run on most of the French electrified railway network.
Composed of three or four articulated boxes (the cars share the same bogies), the Z 27500 offers a modern and bright interior design thanks to its large windows. It has a low floor to facilitate accessibility for passengers and people with reduced mobility (PRM), overhead areas optimized for flow in the station, as well as comfort suitable for medium-distance journeys. It is an essential equipment for electrified TER lines in metropolitan France.
