The BB 27000, nicknamed "Prima", is a series of electric locomotives for the SNCF built by Alstom in the early 2000s. Commissioned as part of a major modernization plan for the Freight business’s traction fleet, it is part of Alstom’s family of standardized locomotives and was designed to replace older and less economical series.
This is a dual-current machine (capable of operating at 1,500 V DC and 25,000 V AC) with an output of 4,200 kW. Unlike the BB 26000, which were universal locomotives, the BB 27000 was optimized from its design for freight traffic, with a maximum speed limited to 140 km/h but a high tractive effort at startup. Historically sporting the green, white and grey livery of SNCF’s freight business, it is a key player in transporting heavy goods trains and intermodal convoys across the entire electrified French rail network.
