The BB 26000, also known as "Sybic" (from Synchrone and Bicourant), is a series of electric locomotives built by Alstom between the late 1980s and early 1990s. Designed as a universal machine, it is capable of towing both heavy freight trains and fast passenger trains at 200 km/h, thanks to its dual-voltage drive (1,500 V DC and 25,000 V AC).
In passenger service, the BB 26000 is inseparable from the famous Corail cars (contraction of Comfort on Rail). Introduced by the SNCF in the mid-1970s, these mainline cars have profoundly modernized French rail transport thanks to their thermal comfort (air conditioning), their efficient suspension and interior layout, offered in a central corridor version (coach) or compartments. The BB 26000 couple and Corail cars have long been the backbone of Intercités connections and some long-distance TER on main lines not served by the TGV.
